OVERVIEW

Greece does not simply welcome travellers—it mesmerises them. More than 30 million visitors drift toward its shores every year, drawn not only by its legendary heritage but by a beauty that feels almost divine in origin. Rugged mountains meet jewel-toned seas, sun-washed islands whisper ancient stories, and a luminous Mediterranean sky casts its golden glow over ruins and modern boulevards alike. Greece is a place where myth and reality walk hand in hand—where every horizon feels like a promise and every breath carries the essence of history.

This is a land of grand contrasts, where 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites rise proudly amid cosmopolitan cities alive with contemporary energy. Athens, a masterpiece sculpted across millennia, blends sleek modernity with temples older than memory. Greece’s mild climate, shimmering coastlines, and rich landscapes—stretching from mountain ranges to tucked-away fishing villages—create a destination where business, leisure, culture, and adventure effortlessly intertwine. Whether you arrive seeking ancient wisdom or modern indulgence, Greece offers an experience both timeless and deeply luxurious.

Mainland Greece — A realm of mountain majesty and quiet wonder

The Greek mainland, forming 80% of the nation, is carved by the dramatic Pindus mountain range—a rugged spine that anchors the land. Though famed for its ancient cities, archaeological sites, and world-class museums, the mainland reveals many secrets beyond its storied ruins. Winter brings alpine charm to surprising ski resorts, while summer wraps serene fishing villages and walled medieval towns in a warm, tranquil glow. Regions are divided by water and stone—the Corinth Canal, only 70 metres wide, cleaves the Peloponnese from the mainland in one of the world’s most striking manmade passages.

Cities like Athens and Thessaloniki radiate culture and charisma, but it is the varied topography—valleys, fortresses, mountain hamlets—that lends the mainland its soulful, unforgettable allure.

The Greek Islands — A celestial archipelago of story and sun

Greece’s islands are a world unto themselves—a constellation of over 12,000 islands and islets, with 227 inhabited, each shaped by ancient civilizations like the Minoans and the Cycladic people. Their beauty unfolds in seven island clusters, each with its own character. The Cyclades, numbering 56 islands, boast global icons: Mykonos, with its dazzling Cycladic architecture and vibrant energy; Santorini, the ethereal volcanic caldera where sunsets ignite the sky in shades of gold and fire; Delos, sacred birthplace of Apollo and once a mighty Roman-era trading centre; Paros and Naxos, where crystalline waters, Byzantine paths, rugged cliffs, and mountain villages create landscapes of dramatic serenity.

Further south lie Crete, a kingdom of ancient legends, majestic gorges, and sunlit beaches, and the Dodecanese, home to Rhodes, where grand temples whisper the memory of the vanished Colossus. Across all these islands, nature and history entwine, creating a dreamscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Best time to visit

Greece reveals its most radiant splendour from April to October, when the Mediterranean sun softens the sea into shades of sapphire and jade. Spring brings gentle breezes and blooming hillsides, while summer shimmers with long, golden days perfect for island-hopping. As autumn arrives, the air cools, the crowds thin, and the country takes on a hushed, romantic beauty. Whether you seek vibrant beaches or tranquil cultural journeys, these months cast Greece in its most enchanting light.

Connectivity from the UAE

Visa for UAE Nationals & Residents

As Greece is part of the Schengen Zone, UAE nationals require a Schengen visa to visit. The process is straightforward and handled through the Greek consulate or authorised visa centres. UAE residents—regardless of nationality—also require a Schengen tourist visa, supported by valid residence documents, financial statements, and travel insurance. Applying a few weeks ahead ensures a smooth, effortless journey into this world of ancient beauty and modern charm.

Mainland Greece

Five thousand years.

That’s how long the city has been continuously inhabited, an amazement anywhere in the world.

In this long journey, the city has seen itself taking massive strides in cultural achievements that lay the foundation of Classical Greece and thereby of western civilization. No wonder, every nook of the city has some ancient or historical archaeological sites to explore.

The city’s inheritance of the classical era is clearly apparent in the ancient monuments and works of art, prominent among them being the former temple of Parthenon.

A bustling modern capital city now, it is a cultural, financial, commercial and political capital of Greece with elaborate tourists’ facilities, bars, cafes, eateries and nightlife.

This Beta global city is an amazing blend of the classical and the modern.

Surrounded on three sides by the mountains, the city is spread around seven hills and is a must-go place in the mainland of Greece.
