The current home of the German Parliament, the Reichstag Building is one of the most famous landmarks of Berlin. However, it is better known because of the key role it played in Germany’s dark past, the Nazi regime.
The Reichstag served as the home of the German parliament until 1933 when the building was set on fire and was severely damaged. A communist took responsibility for the fire, and Hitler used the attack to discredit the communists. Under Nazi dictatorship, the building falls into neglect and is severely damaged during the Second World War.
In 1945, it became one of the primary targets for the Red Army and was further destroyed. It wasn't until the 1970s that the building was properly repaired. Now, since the 1990s, the building again houses the German Parliament.
The most striking feature of the building is its glass dome which offers a spectacular 360º view of the city. The dome can be visited by prior registration and is reached by two big steel ramps that curve up towards it in the form of a double helix.
The Protestant Berlin Cathedral is Berlin's largest church and one of the major sights in the city's centre. Embodying power, religion and spirituality, the church surprises visitors with its Baroque palace architecture.
More than just its glorious appearance, it also represents 500 years of history in Brandenburg and Prussia. This historical site is renowned as one of the most important dynastic burial sites in Germany.
Created in remembrance of the murdered Jews of Europe, the Holocaust Memorial is a series of concrete slabs of various sizes positioned in such a way that, as you approach it, you have no idea the depth to which you will eventually descend.
Covering 4.7 acres, this memorial is symbolic and was created to reproduce the chaotic and confusing experience of a holocaust victim. At every turn, the visitor goes deeper into the labyrinth.
Underneath the memorial site is an information centre which contains several rooms—rooms of names, families who were killed, site of concentration camps, and even voices of survivals
Museum Island is a unique collection of five museums on Spree Island in the Mitte district of Berlin. The entire complex has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The most well-known of the complex, Pergamon Museum was built to house the artefacts from the 19th-century excavations of German archaeologists in Pergamon and Asia Minor at a time when Heinrich Schliemann found Priam's treasure. The Pergamon museum attracts over a million visitors a year from all over the world to marvel at the Market Gate of Miletus and the Ishtar Gate.
Other museums here are the Bode-Museum, Neues Museum or New Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie or Old National Gallery and the Altes Museum or Old Museum.
The Akademie der Künste or Academy of Arts was founded in 1696. It is one of the oldest cultural institutes in Europe. The academy is an international community of artists and has a current total of 416 members in its six Sections namely- Visual Arts, Architecture, Music, Literature, Performing Arts, Film and Media Arts.

Day 1
Begin your first day in Berlin at the World Clock at Alexanderplatz. From the top of the TV tower, you will have a phenomenal view of the whole city. Enjoy breakfast or brunch inside the restaurant sphere that rotates over Berlin at a height of 200 metres. Further down the stream of the river on the other side, you will find the Berlin Cathedral with its gigantic dome one of Berlins unmissable landmarks. Museum Island is a top Berlin attraction and consists of five museums that are on UNESCOs list of world heritage sites. Back on the magnificent Unter den Linden boulevard take a short detour to Gendarmenmarkt, a beautiful square in Berlin. Enjoy the harmonious ensemble of the concert house in the centre from one of the many restaurants and cafes around the square. Charlottenstrae on the western side of the square and then Behrenstrae going westwards will now lead you to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, which is also known as the Holocaust Memorial. From here its just a few metres down Ebertstrae before you will find yourself in front of the Brandenburg Gate, most famous landmark of Berlin. The next spot is the Reichstag, the seat of the German parliament. Enjoy the nightlife around Hackescher Markt.
Day 2
Begin your second day with a stroll around Charlottenburg Palace. Explore the splendid palace grounds and the extensive gardens. Next up is the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church) on Breitscheidplatz. Consisting of the ruins of the church destroyed in the war, it is a monument for peace and reconciliation and a symbol of Berliners' will to rebuild in the post-war period. At the end of the second day's tour, you'll visit the famous Zoologischer Garten (Berlin Zoo) and the Aquarium Berlin.
Day 3
The third day is for you to relax. Explore the many cafes by the Landwehr Canal or the Neukolln Ship Canal. Freischwimmer, Club der Visionare, Badeschiff and IPSE are just four of the locations on the island that form a summertime bar biotope on the left and right of the Flutgraben channel. Make your way to Oberbaumbrücke, the most picturesque bridge in Berlin. Here you get one of the most beautiful views of Berlin in both directions towards Alexanderplatz with the TV Tower and out of the city with the Molecule Men in the Spree. Just around the corner from Oberbaumbrücke, you will find the East Side Gallery stretching out before you, the longest connected piece of the former Berlin Wall.
